Xunantunich derives from the Yucatec Maya language, meaning “Stone Woman.” The site is situated off the George Price Highway, 80 miles west of Belize City. Accessed by a hand-cranked ferry across the river from San Jose Succotz village, it sits less than 1.5 kilometers (1 mile) from the rapids of the Mopan River.

While at Xuantunich, the most thrilling experience is climbing to the top of El Castillo, where you can enjoy a panoramic view of Cayo and the Guatemalan border. Furthermore, you can explore the temple, courtyard, and plazas while your knowledgeable guide highlights  Maya culture, lifestyle, and history.
