Island Kayaking

Sea Kayaking is a great way to see the Belize Barrier Reef. The shallow inshore waters at Belize’s atolls make it the perfect place to kayak. It requires some energy, however, you can go at your own pace. When you rent Casa Al Mar, you have access to complimentary kayaks. Feel free to use them anytime as a source of exploration on either the calmer West side of the island or the East side towards Belize’s Reef.

Snorkeling in the Caribbean Sea

Not certified to dive? Belize also welcomes snorkelers of all experience levels to enjoy the abundant sea life, colorful coral formations, and crystal-clear turquoise waters. Belize, known as a world-class snorkeling destination, brings travelers from all over the world to experience some of the best snorkeling spots. Near St. George’s Caye has a number of beautiful snorkel spots to enjoy, or you can go island hopping to the north and snorkel the Shark Ray and Hol Chan Marine Reserve, where you can also swim with Belize’s friendly nurse sharks!

Swim, Chill and Soak up the sun at a nearby Sandbar

St. George’s Caye is about 10-15 minutes away by boat from 2 beautiful white sandbars where you can enjoy refreshing, shallow waters. You can go for a swim or you can make a whole day of it. We can pack your lunch, snacks and drinks aboard the boat and you can chill in the crystal clear waters.

Take a day trip to Caye Caulker

Caye Caulker, is located 11 miles north-northeast of St. George’s Caye and is a popular and easily accessible island in Belize. It’s only about 35 minutes by boat from Casa Al Mar. Once a fishing village, Caye Caulker is a small island with a laid back atmosphere attracting many budget to moderate travelers. The island is roughly 5 miles long and is divided by the ‘Split’.

Exploring the island is easy. You either bike or walk most places and it’s a great day trip for snorkeling and a great place to go slow and bar hop.

Up for deep sea fishing, inner reef fishing, spearfishing, or fly fishing? You name it, it is all possible with great fishing all year round. Despite having fishing year-round, particular times of the year you have better luck of catching certain specie. Take a look at the fishing calendar for the different species of fish.

Dive the 2nd Largest Barrier Reef in the World

The Belize Barrier Reef Reserve System, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, stretches 180 miles along the coastline. Not to mention, Belize boasts three of the four atolls in the Western Hemisphere. Not only are these atolls home to over 50 species of corals and 500 species of tropical fish, but astonishing marine life that make Belize’s diving world-class. According to divein.com, Belize’s Great Blue Hole is one of the top 10 best dive sites in the world. It is a diver’s paradise.

Visit the Belize Zoo & Xunantunich Maya Ruins

“Extraordinarily exciting”, “Unbelievable”, these are only a few of the comments made about our Zoo – one of Belize’s most iconic sights. The Belize Zoo offers an immersive wildlife experience and is located just 29 miles west of Belize City. Visiting the Belize Zoo is an easy day trip from St. George’s Caye and can be combined with visiting other attractions such as Xunantunich since you’re on the mainland already.

Xunantunich means “maiden of the rock” The Xu is pronounced like shoe. It is situated on the George Price Highway, 80 miles west of Belize City, across the river from the village of San Jose Soccotz. You’ll get there by hand-cranked ferry. This site is less than 1.5 kilometers (1 mile) from some lovely rapids of the Mopan River and provides an impressive view of the entire river valley.

Explore the Ancient Mayan Ruin of Altun Ha

Altun Ha is 30 miles (about a 40 minute car ride) from Belize City and it is open to the public every day
Like many Maya ruins in Belize, Altun Ha sits in a thickly forested jungle area populated by numerous animals. You’ll see dozens of bird species in addition to animals like foxes, deer, squirrels, and armadillos. Crocodiles inhabit the reservoir that was originally built by Altun Ha’s Maya residents, and the site is also home to tapirs, Belize’s national animals. There is also a museum at the site.
