The Boat

Your group will have a private boat selected based on the size of your party, ensuring everyone has plenty of room for comfort during transfers and while exploring Belize’s waters.

The Captain

Each day on the water is thoughtfully planned by your experienced, licensed captain, who reads the morning weather, water conditions, and visibility to create the best possible experience for your group. With deep knowledge of the channels surrounding St. George’s Caye, the captain works alongside an onboard guide who assists with docking and helps guests safely daily.

The Licensed Guide

Your Belize Tourism Board-licensed guide accompanies your group on snorkeling trips, fishing excursions, and island adventures. Whether you’re an experienced traveler or trying something new for the first time, your guide makes every outing enjoyable. First-time snorkelers are comfortably walked through the equipment and experience before entering the water.

What to Bring

Equipment needed for tours are included, but we recommend bringing: reef-safe sunscreen, long sleeve sun shirt, hat, water shoes and a prescription snorkel mask if needed.

    Snorkeling Belize's Reef

    St. George’s Caye sits within the UNESCO-listed Belize Barrier Reef Reserve System, home to the second-largest barrier reef in the world. Just a short 15-min boat ride from the island, guests can explore vibrant coral formations, tropical fish, rays, and other marine life in clear Caribbean waters. Snorkeling is suitable for all experience levels, and gear is provided for every guest as part of your stay.

    Day Trip to Caye Caulker

    Located about 11 miles north of St. George’s Caye, Caye Caulker is an easy and enjoyable day trip just 35 minutes away by boat. The excursion typically includes snorkeling at the Coral Gardens, swimming with gentle nurse sharks, feeding tarpon, and time to explore the island’s laid-back atmosphere. Known for its “Go Slow” lifestyle, Caye Caulker offers charming waterfront bars, local shops, and plenty of opportunities to experience a different side of Belize.

    Sandbar Days

    Just minutes from Casa Al Mar are some of Belize’s most beautiful hidden sandbars—shallow patches of crystal-clear Caribbean water where you can swim, relax, and soak up the sun. Some are even visible from the house balcony, while others are only a short 5–10 minute boat ride away. Sandbar trips include snacks and a bartender comes out on the boat, so no one has to leave the water to get drinks. This is an all-time favorite among guests. Visits to a sandbar can be 1-4 hours.

    Island Kayaking

    Sea kayaking offers a peaceful way to explore the waters surrounding St. George’s Caye at your own pace. Included kayaks are available throughout your stay and can be launched directly from the property. Paddle through the calm mangroves on the island’s west side or venture toward the Caribbean waters on the east side, where you can enjoy scenic views, wildlife sightings, and a closer connection to Belize’s coastal environment.

    Cast a line in some of the most productive fishing waters in the Caribbean and bring dinner home. Casa Al Mar arranges fishing trips for all levels — from first-timers to seasoned anglers — in the rich waters off the Belizean coast. The best part? Your private chef can cook whatever you reel in.

  • Swimming & Sunning off the East Dock

    The East Dock is one of Casa Al Mar’s enjoyable places to be. Whether you prefer sunshine or shade, you’ll find both here, with covered seating and a sunning deck. Two swim ladders provide easy access to the waters surrounding the dock, making it a favorite spot for swimming, floating, or simply cooling off. Dock hammocks invite guests to relax with a good book, enjoy an afternoon nap, or watch boats pass by on the horizon.

Your reservations coordinator will collect information about what you want to do prior to your arrival. The host, captain and guide will build the week with you on the island. Some days are full boat days. Some days the boat stays at the dock and the group kayaks instead. The week shapes itself around your group.

Deep Sea Fishing

For guests looking for a true offshore fishing adventure, half-day and full-day deep sea fishing charters can be arranged directly from Casa Al Mar’s dock. Venture beyond the Belize Barrier Reef with experienced local captains in search of prized game fish such as mahi-mahi, wahoo, tuna, and marlin. This exciting add-on excursion offers a chance to experience Belize’s deep blue waters and some of the best sport fishing in the Caribbean.

Ancient Maya Ruins of Lamanai

One of Belize’s most popular inland excursions, Lamanai combines a scenic river journey with a visit to an impressive ancient Maya city. The adventure begins with a drive north to the New River, followed by a boat ride through wetlands rich with wildlife, including crocodiles, howler monkeys, and tropical birds. Upon arrival, guests can explore towering temples, ceremonial plazas, and one of the longest continuously occupied Maya sites in Belize.

Belize Zoo & Xunantunich Combo

This popular mainland excursion combines two of Belize’s favorite attractions in a single day. Begin with a visit to the Belize Zoo, home to rescued native wildlife including jaguars, tapirs, monkeys, and tropical birds. Continue west to Xunantunich, one of Belize’s most impressive Maya sites, where a hand-cranked ferry carries visitors across the river before exploring ancient plazas, temples, and panoramic views from atop El Castillo.

Your safety is our #1 priority and Casa Al Mar adhere’s to all the local safety regulations in Belize. All license stickers are placed in visible areas on the boat, as required by Belize Authority.

  • The captain is a licensed Belize boat captain by the Belize Port Authority

  • The guide is licensed by the Belize Tourism Board.

  • Life jackets in adult and child sizes on the boat.

  • Safety briefing on day one before the first boat ride and each day of touring on the water.

  • First-aid kit on the boat and at the house.

  • Cell coverage in most of the reef areas, with VHF on the boat for the rest.

  • The captain and Casa al Mar keep a close eye on the weather and coordinate well ahead of time. If anything is forming, we'll talk through the plan with your group early so everyone knows what to expect. You're in good hands.

  • On rare occasions, St. George’s Caye can see a light influx of sargassum, but it usually moves swiftly along our seawall and out the way. The captain picks the clearest visibility for each day.

    Reef snorkel sites are typically clear of sargassum. The season runs June through November.

  • Yes. Casa Al Mar's private boat carries life jackets in adult and child sizes, a licensed Belize Tourism Board guide and is completely safe for all ages.
